Take Shelter Opens on September 30th

Take Shelter, the winner of the SACD Award and Critics Week Grand Prize at Cannes, may be one of the best psychological dramas of recent memory. Curtis LaForche, played by Michael Shannon, is a construction worker who is having apocalyptic visions involving tornadoes, birds, his furniture levitating, and more. Avoiding confronting his family about his paranoia, Curtis goes to counseling, which fails to help. In response, he decides to build a tornado shelter at great cost to his family. Meanwhile, his family grows more and more suspicious of his actions, with the breaking point being when Curtis secures a loan to build the shelter.

Starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, Take Shelter premiers in the US on September 30th. As a side note, this is the second film that Chastain has been in this year that has won awards at the Cannes Film Festival (The other was The Tree of Life), possibly signaling the start of a promising career in film.
