In Circumstance, by Maryam Keshavarz, we get a unique look at life in Tehran, the capitol of Iran. Starring teenagers Atafeh (Boosheri) and Shireen (Kazemy), the film focuses on the two teenagers and their budding romance. Atafeh’s brother Mehran (Safai), has returned home from drug rehab and vehemently renounces his former life. Making an about-face, he joins Iran’s morality police, and starts investigating his own family. After finding out about the Atafeh and Shireen’s romance and other “immoral”, and therefore illegal, activities, Mehran begins using this information and the couple’s fear of punishment by the autorities to pry the two apart.
